  • Role based configurations in Alfesco Share?

Posted on March 19th, 2009 jan 3 comments

I’m currently writing a concept of a knowledge management portal based on Alfresco Share. The Alfresco guys are adding some missing features to Share in the next release(s), e.g. support of custom meta-data, Rules & Actions. But I’m missing a few other things, one of them I’d like to discuss in this post.

What about Role based configuration? I think it is quite often that you’d like to configurate, that for example a consumer doesn’t see some adminitrative components or Dashlets you’ve added to Share to support your use case.

I know that you can achieve this by custom coding (Or am I missing sth.?), but from my point of view this should be an configuration task.

    1. I agree that this is a nice to have, but in respect to the missing features you discussed also in your blog I would prefer a much better portal integration since portals can handle role based page objects and customisation much better since years. I’m wondering if there is nobody writing some more advanced portlets to work around the need to code always in the UI.

      Hey Jan,

did you check that in Jibe? That feature and much other, exists already in Jibe, and it is just a matter of configuring what role can see what … not only by role, but by URL parameters also and much more

    3. hey daniel,
jub, my next free-time will be used to discover jibe in depth. In my current project Share was a must (customer decision).
